Announcing...

What was the Reading Rainbow
Young Writers & Illustrators Contest is now the
PBSKidsGo! WRITERS CONTEST.
Students in Kindergarten through Third Grade (K-3) are encouraged to take part in the
PBSKids Go! Writers Contest through their local library or by participating through their local schools. This contest replaces the Reading Rainbow Young Writers & Illustrators Contest traditionally held in years past. Since the cancellation of Reading Rainbow in 2009, the future of this contest was not assured until PBS and PBS Kids stepped up to renew this tradition of creativity, expression and fun for thousands of kids across the country, and all the PBS kids in our viewing area.

Following is the timeline for the 2010 Contest in the PBS39 viewing area:
January 27, 2010:
The PBSKids Go! Writers Contest begins! Check with your local children's librarian or classroom teacher to see when they will begin this contest at their respective locations. Each library/classroom will send the top stories at each grade level (K-3) to PBS39 for judging once their local contests end.
Please note: If a child enters one story through their classroom, and another story through their local library and they both get sent to PBS39 for judging, both entries will be disqualified automatically.
Sorry, but exceptions.
Due to the volume of entries anticipated, PBS39 will NOT be accepting entries directly at our TV station. In order to make this contest as fair as possible for all participants, please make arrangements to enter your story through a branch of your local library or classroom,
and not as a direct-drop-off to PBS39.
Teachers/Librarians: Please send only the top (first-place) stories in each category (K-3) from your classroom/library/brach library to PBS39, not the entire volume of stories entered at your location.

Every child who participates will receive a special certificate of participation. The entries for this year, as in years past, will be judged at each local library library branch or in each participating classroom, where they will then be forwarded to PBS39 in Fort Wayne. Once at PBS39, the local winners will be judged against each other, then the first place winners in each grade, K-3, will be sent on to the national contest.
If you would like your child's entry sent back, please include an appropriate-sized envelope for this purpose with adequate postage to do so. PBS39 will make every attempt to return entries to students and their familes as resources allow.
Winners for the national contest will be announced in June 2010.
We are proud to bring to continue this creative tradition along with:
