PBS39 WFWA-DT COMMUNITY CALENDAR

Now through December 31, 2010
Exhibit: The Literal Bible
The Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum
3039 Piqua Avenue, Fort Wayne, IN 46806
Open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10:00am-4:00pm
No admission charge

The Karpeles Museum is home to "The Literal Bible" exhibit now through the end of the year. The exhibit includes leaves of a Gutenberg and King James Bible, a four hundred year-old Torah, a fragment of the Egyptian Book of the Dead and the earliest primary manuscript of the writings of Paul, 180 AD. The exhibit poses interesting questions about God and the events of the Bible. What does God look like? Is there only one God? Did God or Moses write the Ten Commandments? Did God originally intend to create a Man? The Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum is open at 3039 Piqua Avenue, Fort Wayne, IN 46806. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 AM to 4 PM.

Groups are welcome. Admission is always free of charge.
The museum provides educational programs and lectures for schools at all levels. The most popular of these are the Cultural Literacy Program and the School Outreach Program. As part of the school outreach program, Mini-Museums are maintained in local schools. Educational exhibits of manuscript reproductions on various topics including: historical, literary, political, musical, and scientific, are available on an on-going basis. Such exhibits are changed by the museum every two months. These are free programs and any grade school, secondary school, college or university may participate.
Interested school leaders should contact Jan Cave, Educational Curator 260-456-6929.

Guided tours and lectures of the current exhibit or topics of academic interest can be scheduled at the museum. Minimal lead time is required for each request.
Interested groups can contact Lisa Olinger, Director. 260-456-6929.

2nd and 4th Thursdays monthly, from 6:30-8:00pm
Crescent Avenue United Methodist Church, 1232 Crescent Ave., Fort Wayne, IN 46805
Sponsored by Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana

A group designed for men who find themselves in the role of caregiver for members of their families due to all kinds of traumatic events. It's a fact that men process information and feelings differently than women, so this group will offer a place for men to interact with each other in a way that is most beneficial to them. The facilitator is Pastor Jim Evans, Jr. who conceived of the idea because he is the chief caregiver in his home due to his wife's chronic battle with cancer.

Cancer Services is the local non-profit organization that provides practical resources, emotional support (through client advocacy and support groups) and information to people with cancer and their families. More information about this organization can be found at www.cancer-services.org.
